This Flat Iron Is In My Hairstyling Kit

My work as a freelance hairstylist means that I work in a non-traditional environment. Currently, I am working on the Tyra Banks Show which is taped in New York City.
I have worked with America’s Next Top Model winner Jaslene shown in the video clip, styling her hair for appearances on the Tyra Banks Show, magazine photo shoots and press appearances.

Working for a television show in a production studio is completely different from the environment in a beauty salon. There is a lot more expected because the work that goes into taping a talk show is quite demanding (i.e. many times chaotic).
You need to be a very well rounded and skilled professional to handle working in this type of high pressure environment.

Since we provide hairstyling for the guests that will appear on the show, as a hairstylist I must bring a well prepared toolkit with me to the studio. I have to anticipate any number of scenarios for hairstyling since I do not know in advance who I will be working on or what type of hair they have.
One tool I always make sure I have in my kit is a good flat iron.
A good professsional grade flat iron is an invaluable tool to have in my hair kit because I can do almost any thing I need to do as far as styling hair with one very versatile high quality tool. All flat irons are not created equal. As a hairstylist I put my flat iron through some very rigorous use and it has held up over several years of use. This iron by Chi is definitely worth the investment.
I will explain in a upcoming article the benefits of a flat vs. curling iron.
